Recently, we asked our Facebook fans “What kind of Charities do you hold near and dear to your
heart and if you care to share, why?”
In
response to this question, the Chloe Real Estate team members have decided to
share what charities are important to us. Over the next few months, our Team
will take turns sharing a bit about ourselves and the causes/Charities that we
love to support. Kimberly Jewell, our Client Care Coordinator, will share her
story first...
My son, Liam, was diagnosed with Autism in
September 2010. I will never forget that day when the psychologist gave us the
diagnosis and said “There is a very good chance your son will never talk.”
Autism affects 1 in 88 children and 1 in 54 boys. Autism is a group of brain development disorders
that affects a person’s social interaction and ability to communicate. Autism
can be associated with intellectual disability, difficulties in motor
coordination/attention, and physical health issues such as sleep and
gastrointestinal disturbances. There are
currently no definitive answers for what causes Autism nor is there a cure.
Early intervention is viewed by many as the most
successful method for battling Autism. Liam works harder than any 3 year old
should have to with a full time schedule of school/therapy from 9 to 5, Monday
- Friday. The demands on him are constant. We support Autism Speaks with the hope that
through research, we will find the causes of and a cure for Autism. We dream of a day when no family has to hear
the words “your child has Autism”.
On June 3rd, we will walk at the Greater
Hartford Autism Speaks Walkathon at Rentschler Field in East Hartford. Please
feel free to join “Team Liam” – the more, the merrier. You can sign up as a
walker or make a donation at www.walknowforautismspeaks.org.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about
Autism!
~ Kimberly
WHAT IS RED DAY?
RED Day is an initiative dedicated to celebrating Keller Williams Realty’s year-round commitment to improving our local communities. Each year, on the second Thursday in May, tens of thousands of associates from across the United States and Canada participate in a wide range of projects, devoting their time to renewing and energizing aspects of the neighborhoods in which they serve.
RED Day initiatives run the gamut: From rebuilding homes, refurbishing local parks, giving to local food shelters, hosting blood drives, beautifying beaches and so much more. Projects are chosen by each individual market center based on a need they see within its community.
“RED Day isn’t about cleaning up a park. It is a one-day expression of what happens 24/7 in the Keller Williams culture. It is seeing a need, discovering who can meet that need and then getting it done."
Keller Williams Realty's Red Day is on May 10th! This year we will be working with HARC, a fabulous organization that helps teach and care for intellectually challenged and disabled members of our community. We will work at their local group homes and at their headquarters doing gardening and repairs.
This special event is open to all. Please let us know ASAP if you would like to join us for a day of giving back to our community. http://www.kw.com/lw/redday.html
Where in the world...San Diego, CA
San Diego is located immediately adjacent to the Mexican border.
The birthplace of California, San Diego is known for its mild year-round
climate, its natural deep-water harbor, and its long association with the U.S.
Navy. The population was 1,301,617 at the 2010 census.
Tourism is a major industry
owing to the city's climate, its beaches, and numerous tourist attractions such as Balboa Park, Belmont amusement park, San Diego Zoo and SeaWorld San Diego. San Diego's Spanish and Mexican heritage
is reflected in the many historic sites across the city, such as Mission San Diego de Alcala and Old Town San Diego State Historic Park.
Prior to 2006, San Diego
experienced a dramatic growth of real estate prices, to the extent that the
situation was sometimes described as a "housing affordability
crisis". Median house prices more than tripled between 1998 and 2007. As
of December 2010, home prices were 60 percent higher than in 2000, but down 36
percent from the peak in 2005. * courtesy of wikipedia.org
